Lawrence’s prayer meeting for Rajini!

One of the biggest fans of Rajinikanth is choreographer turned actor Lawrence.

On Sunday (May 22), the dance king organised a mass prayer meeting for "the speedy recovery of superstar Rajinikanth" at Raghavendra temple at Thirumangalam in Chennai.

Later he organised "Annadanam" and served lunch to the underprivileged people.

Nadigar Sangam chief and AISMK leader and MLA Sarath Kumar was also present on the occasion.

Murali passes away

Popular hero Murali passed away early this morning following a massive heart attack. The actor complained of chest pain last night and was admitted to a private hospital in Chennai where his end came. Murali made his Tamil debut with Poo Vilangu and went on to give several smash hits including Idhayam and Pudhu Vasantham.

 

His son Atharva entered the filmdom very recently with Baana Kaathadi and has been receiving rave reviews for his performance in the film.

Murali’s death is a great loss to the film industry. He is survived by his wife, daughter and two sons.

Karunas seeks protection!

Comedian turned hero Karunas of Ambasamudram Ambani fame visited the Police Commissioners office today to lodge a complaint.

The comedian it seems has been threatened by several pro-Sri Lanka Tamil groups as he is planning to go to Kandy in Srilanka with his family for a pilgrimage.

Later speaking to newsmen, Karunas said:"I am getting threatening calls and SMS’s from people owing allegiance to Naam Thamizar, asking me not to go to Sri Lanka. It is purely a personal visit as Kandy Kathirkamam Murugan is my Kula Deivam (family deity) and I had taken a vow that I will pray there. I have also some relatives in Sri Lanka, and I will be definitely calling on them.”

A new ACTOR’S TEMPLE!

Action King Arjun, a devotee of lord Anjaneyar, will build a temple for his favorite God in Chennai. A huge Anjaneyar statue, measuring about 23 feet, was made at the behest of Arjun. Since the actor wanted the statue to be made of a single stone, it took him nearly a year to find such a stone and another four years to have it sculpted.

The Anjaneyar, which is in a seated position, will be the tallest Anjaneyar statue in that position in the world. The idol will be transported to Chennai from Karnataka in a 160-wheeled truck.

Arjun says that he would build a temple for his lord and throw it open to the public.

Sarathkumar injured!

In a mishap on the sets of his latest Kannada film Sarathy, Sarathkumar suffered a hip fracture and was admitted to a private hospital immediately. A risky stunt scene was being filmed in Pondicherry when Sarath slipped and fell. The fall caused him excruciating pain and he was hospitalized, where the doctors diagnosed the fracture. He's being given medical attention and the shoots are momentarily stalled owing to this. The actor will be out of action for a month to recuperate.

Sarathy is directed by K S Selva Raj and stars Sarathkumar in double roles with Sneha playing his lead.

Comedian Goundamani admitted in ICU

Comedy actor Goundamani was a leading comedy actor in Tamil film industry. He was suffering from severe diabetics. For the last few days he was suffering from shoulder pain. At this point he was suffering from severe breathing problems.

Following this, he was admitted in the hospital. Doctors who reviewed his physical condition found out that he was suffering from a mild heart attack. He underwent full body check. After this the doctors decided to conduct a heart operation. Yesterday morning the operation took place at 7.30 a m.

The operation went up to 12 noon. He was brought out of the operation and he is being kept in the intensive care unit. The doctors stated that his operation was successful but he will be kept in the intensive care unit for few days and will be sent home after 15 days.

Taste bites of Kollywood stars

Kamal Haasan eats everything which is alive in the sky to deep sea . He is a regular customer of Samco restaurant at Alwarpet. His favorites are pepper fried chicken, crabs and prawns from Madurai, omelets without yolk. Peanut candy is a must after his lunch.

Rajnikanth is fond of eating lot of fruits. Mutton Thonjal is his favourite. He avoids oily food. He takes fewer amounts of rice, sugar and salt. He is fond of Raatu fish which is available in Trichy Vijay’s favourite are mutton biriyani, fried rice, noodles and also mutton trotter’s soup. He is fond of all food made out of coconut oil. Vijayakanth eats a lot of fresh vegetables, greens. His favourite are pepper rasam, buttermilk gravy, boiled peanuts, mutton dry fry, fired crabs and fishes. Trisha is a pure vegetarian at home and a pure non vegetarian outside. She gives a big take at chicken, mutton and fish dishes. Her all time favorites are boiled eggs, coconut chutney and kara kuzambhu. Ajith is fond of milk pudding, chicken 65, scrambled shark, prawns fry, rice puttu, tender coconut, guava and crunchier dosas. Nayanthara’ all time favorites are mutton biriyani, peeled mangoes, pomegranate juice and dry chapattis. Vikram likes chicken 65, fried seer fish, garlic rasam, mor kuzambhu, omelets with lot of onions, milk, yoghurt and butter. Sarath Kumar’s lunch consists of chicken leg soup, half a kilo mutton, half a kilo chicken leg piece, 4 boiled eggs and one seer fish steak. His rice intake is very less. He has two glasses of rasam. Dhanush is fond of dry fish gravy,chicken 65, prawns fry, crab rasam, unboiled cow’s milk, vathal kuzambhu and rava upuma Namitha craves for fried rice, chili chicken, wheat based foods, peanut candy, fried cashew nuts and lassi.

Comedian Vadivelu's house attacked

Comedians are usually the perfect foil to the action star’s brusque, macho act - either as sidekick or fallguy. But this time Vadivelu and Vijayakanth have crossed swords after the comedian said that the actor-turned-politician’s supporters attacked his house.

Chennai police registered a first information report against DMDK leader and film star Vijayakanth and 40 others on Sunday following an attack on the house and office of leading Kollywood comedian Vadivelu. The action was based on a complaint from the comedian who had insinuated that Vijayakanth’s supporters were behind the incident since he had a running feud with the actor-politician over the past year. However, when contacted, a DMDK spokesperson described this as an attempt to foist a case against the party’s leader and insisted that party cadres were not involved in the violence.

According to Vadivelu, a group of around 40 persons carrying wooden logs had descended outside his house on Velayutham Street in Saligramam at around 10.40 am and started pelting stones, damaging windowpanes. They also pushed aside the security guard Chintamani. Vadivelu and his family members, who were inside, were not hurt. A little while later, the mob headed towards his office located on the nearby Vedavalli Street and allegedly ransacked the premises.

“This is not a laughing matter. It is little over a year since they (Vijayakanth’s supporters) first clashed with me (Sept 12, 2007) and I am due to appear in court on Monday in connection with that case, and now they are compounding the matter,” Vadivelu told The Times of India. A year ago, separate cases were registered against Vadivelu and Vijayakanth’s manager Sathish Kumar following a quarrel over parking of vehicles outside the former’s house. Though Vijayakanth and Vadivelu had acted together in quite a few films, the latter had stopped accepting offers casting him with the former in recent months.

Rajnikanth and Vijay waits for his dates

Dhanush is one hero in Kollywood who has never depended on the two kings of comedy Vivek or Vadivel to piggy back ride on. He has done 13 films so far but has never been paired with these two top comedians of Tamil cinema.

Remember that in all his films, Dhanush has done comedy himself or had little known comedians with him. So when Vadivel was signed up in his latest film Padikkathavan it was news. But now the twist in the tale is that Vadivel has been dropped by the unit like a hot potato as “he was too difficult to handle”.

In fact Vadivel, the highest paid comedian ( Rs 7 Lakhs per day!) shot for two days in Hyderabad when he started throwing his weight with director Suraaj. A source close to the unit say that Vadivel was unhappy about the comedy track written for him with Dhanush including a scene which had the hero beating him.

After all, how can the king of comedy get beaten by a young hero when he says that superstars like Rajnikanth and Vijay waits for his dates, pleads with him to come on time and is treated like a hero himself on their sets! It seems on the Padikkathavan sets, Vadivel openly shouted at the director and asked his Chamchas to write his lines, which saw the hero and the unit see red.

And the latest news is that director Suraaj has decided to replace Vadivel with Vivek who is his arch rival. Vivek who is also busy has given immediate dates and is all excited to replace Vadivel and be a part of a Dhanush film for the first time.

Arya will play the lead role

Arya will play the lead role in a movie to be directed by G K Manikandan, who completed ’Dhaam Dhoom’ following the demise of cinematographer-director Jeeva.

G K Manikandan, a protégé of Jeeva, is all set to make a racy entertainer starring Arya for Media One Global Entertainment, which produced films like ’Provoked’ starring Aishwarya Rai, ’Telling Lies’ and ’Ramje Londonwalle’.

The corporate company has distributed several Hindi films and also owns several theatres in Tamilnadu. They are now planning a big-budget venture in Tamil. Harris Jayaraj will score the music for the film.Arya is currently acting in ’Sarvam’, directed by Vishnuvardhan and is eagerly awaiting the long-pending ’Naan Kadavul’, directed by Bala.

Prakash Raj's bad attitude to his profession

Kollywood actor Prakash Raj has been banned from the Telugu film industry. The Telugu film producers accuse him of unprofessionalism and a notorious late lateef. Prakash Raj has been on the verge of ban from Telugu films for quite some time. And at last, Telugu film industry has decided to put ban on him. On Friday (May 30, 2008), Film Producer’s Council of Andhra Pradesh has issued an advertisement stating that the council has decided to not to use his services.

The council has also requested producers and directors not to include him in Telugu films. It is official ban. Even before this ban, many producers who are vexed up with his attitude have stopped selecting Prakash Raj for movies. There have been many allegations on Prakash Raj from various producers that he deliberately doesn’t come to the sets and never honors the allotted call sheets.

’Recently released films like Jalsa, Kanthri and Parugu were the most prominent films that suffered from Prakash Raj’s late lateef ways’ says many Telugu film producers who were fed up with the actor’s attitude to his profession.

Birthday with HIV children?

Prabhu Deva joins Raju Sundaram

Prabhu Deva is assisting his brother Raju Sundaram for is latest film. Sundaram is now directing a film titled Eagan. Actor Ajith and Nayantara are the lead actors. While Raju Sundaram himself is a noted choreographer, he has asked his brother to choreograph a song for his film. Prabhu Deva will choreograph a romantic song to be filmed on Ajith and Nayantara.

Villians Imported for Kollywood?

A new villain is being introduced into Kollywood in the film ’Achchamundu Achchamundu’.

But no wild guesses can bring out the name of the person who is to play the villain in this film starring the young hero Prasanna and smiling Sneha. This is for the first time in the history of Kollywood, a famous Hollywood actor is playing the role of a baddie in this movie.

John Shea who was last seen in the film ’Framed’ which won the academy award for the best screenplay is to do the above role in ’Achchamundu Achchamundu’ John has won the best actor award for the film ’Windy City’ in the Montrel Film Festival and has acted in films such as ’Lune De Miel’, a French film, ’A New Life’, ’Honey I Blew Up The Kid’, ’Stealing Home’, ’Unsettled Land’, ’The Adventures of Sebastian Cole’, ’Framed’, and the yet to be released ’The Insurgents’.

The native of Massachusetts, U.S.A. is not just an actor but also a film director with films such as ’Southie’ that won the Jury Award for the best Independent Film at the 1998 Seattle International Film Festival.

He has also directed a film called ’Grey Lady’ and written the story of the film ’The Junkie Priest’. As an actor who is also seriously involved in theatre, John Shea has acted in the plays ’How I learned to Drive’ which won the Pulitzer Prize, ’The Animal Kingdom’, ’Rosmersholm at La Mama’, ’Long Day’s Journey Into Night’, ’Romeo and Juliet’, ’Man is Man’, and ’The Soldier’s Tale’.

He has also acted in the television series ’Lois and Clark:The New Adventures of Superman, ’Baby M’ which won him an Emmy Award for the best actor and portrayed the role of Harold Waldorf in the hit TV series ’Gossip Girl’.

The American actor was also honoured by Amnesty International for his political work after the release of the film ’Missing’ and recently received the John F. Kennedy Award for Outstanding cultural contribution by a person of Irish-American descent.

Being the founding member of the Nantucket Film Festival, John Shea can be rightly called the complete film personality. John Shea’s role of the villain in the Tamil film is sure to be quite different from the villains who have so far been seen in Kollywood.

Parthiban inaugurates the Art Exhibition

Actor Parthiban inaugurated an exhibition of paintings, sculptures and photographs by A.P. Shreethar, C.Ravi Kumar and JJay Pradeep on May 9 titled "Mother And Child" at the Art World, Sarala’s Art Centre situated at Cenotaph road in Chennai.

Actor Parthiban who was the chief guest of the function inaugurated the exhibition in a rather unusual way by using the paint and brush to give flames to the painting of a traditional lamp.

The actor was accompanied by his son and daughter who also made flames out of yellow and orange colours. The other guests invited for the opening of the exhibition followed the actor in giving flames for the painting of the lamp.

The exhibition will be open to the public till May 20.

Welcome Back, Bhagyaraj!!

The quick-witted K. Bhagyaraj will be seen in action again in the forthcoming Maanavan Ninaithal produced by Adhavan Creations. S.P. Gnanamozhi has written the story and also takes the responsibility of direction and writing dialogues. V. Dashi, who got the State award from the Kerala government for best music director of 2006, composes music for this picture. Newcomers Ratheesh Kumar and Priyashree play the lead roles. Manobala, Pandu and Nalini will also be seen in this movie.

Director Gnanamozhi was very grateful to K. Bhagyaraj, whom he approached for a 4-day call sheet but was magnanimously given one-week call sheet. Gnanamozhi was all praise for Bhagyaraj’s professionalism. He also told that Bhagyaraj was very impressed with the script.
