Kollywood is eagerly waiting for the results of this Friday (Aug 29) releases- Dhaam Dhoom and Jayam Kondaan. In a way the success of these films is important for the general health of the industry.
Both these films are releasing without much financial help to their producers at releasing time from the distributors and theatre owners. Remember that after Kuselan failed to collect even 30 percent of the MG amount, theatres across Tamilnadu have stopped paying MG.
The trade is saying that they will play only on terms or percentage basis, which means the entire risk has to be taken by the producer. However some theatres seeing the plight of the producers are willing to pay a token returnable advance amount, which really does not mean much. In the process it is the small films in the Rs 3 to Rs 7 crore budget which are getting squeezed.
So both the Friday releases have to take an opening and perform decently at the box-office. Plus the artists and technicians of the films are desperate that they do well, as their career depends on it.
