The big-budgeted movie, produced by Oscar Ravichandran and directed by K S Ravikumar, has entered the third week and is still drawing packed houses. Released in over a dozen screens in Chennai, the movie features Kamal Haasan in ten different roles. ‘Dasavatharam’ surely is still the talk of the town.

The movie is doing well in multiplexes and has managed healthy collections in urban centers.

Vijay’s ‘Kuruvi’ is not far-behind.Jayam Ravi’s ‘Santosh Subramaniam’, which completed its 50-day run, is also in the race. The Tamil remake of a blockbuster Telugu version, has struck a chord with family audiences. The peppy songs and the neat performance by Genelia have helped its cause.

In rural centers, Larencce Ragavendra’s ‘Pandi’ is putting up a very good show.Meanwhile a couple of new-releases last week-end - ‘Ayudham Seivom’ starring Sundar C and Parthiban’s ‘Vallamai Tharayo’ have opened well.

A total of 10 sets were erected at the studio and it is a sort of a college cultural which will break out into a dream song with Ajit and Nayanthara.The film which is inspired from Main Hoon Na, is set in a college where Nayan plays a college lecturer for whom Ajit falls hook-line-sinker.

A major portion of this film produced by Ayngaran International was shot in Yercaud at a Public school when it was closed down for summer vacation. The cast also has Suhasini, Suman, Navdeep and a new Mumbai model Piya in important roles and music is by Yuvan Shankar Raja.The shoot of Aegan is almost 75 percent complete. The unit is now planning to shoot a song abroad in the first week of July. The entire shoot will be over by July end, though release dates are yet to be confirmed.

Kuselan audio has been grabbed by Big Music, after a bidding war. The grapevine has it that the price paid is a whopping Rs 2.25 crore, the highest ever price paid for an audio in Tamil. Big Music is opening the audio sales with a record 2 lakhs CD’s and Cassettes, priced at Rs 99 and 45 respectively. They have already got an order for 1.15 units from dealers across the world.

The music downloads too have been snapped by UTV, for a never before price. The songs from the film will also be premiered simultaneously across all the FM stations in Tamilnadu and other Tamil stations across the world on Tuesday morning. There are five songs in the film. "Cinema, Cinema…" written by Vaali and sung by Shankar Mahadevan and chorus is Rajini’s introduction song in the film. The song is said to have been picturised to celebrate 75 years of south Indian cinema, with more than a dozen Kollywood stars taking part in it.

The other major highlight is the Daler Mehndi song along with Chitra and Sadhana Sargam, "Om Zaarare…" written by Vaali. It is a seven - minute song where Rajini and Nayanthara appear as Egyptian King and Queen ,and shot lavishly on a studio set done by Thotta Tharani. It has all the potential to be a chartbuster. If the audio of the film clicks, G.V Prakash the prince in waiting will be anointed as the King of Kollywood. Prakash is in a position to piggy back ride on Rajinikanth’s popularity across the globe.

It has been confirmed that Ileana will also pair up with Vikram. Ileana is restricting herself to Tollywood alone and rejecting the offers from Kollywood. While other actresses are earning with both hands by acting in both Telugu and Tamil, Ileana is not so interested in doing Tamil films. Ileana has acted in only one Tamil film, Kedi, with Ravi Krishna and Tamanna. She is extremely popular in Tollywood. There have been a lot of attempts to bring her to Tamil films; she was considered for Pokkiri, and most recently, for Villu as Vijay’s heroine, but these proposals did not click. She has a large fan base in Kollywood too, so her Telugu films do very good business in Chennai.

The heroine for “the other” Vikram, could be Nayantara, if the ongoing talks are successful. Nayan, who has broken many stereotypes in Kollywood and stolen all the hearts of South India, has never worked with Vikram before. If she acts in this film, it will be a double delight for viewers - Nayantara and Ileana, two hot and beautiful ladies in one film.

Prabhu Deva, the director is a fast worker, and the movie which has camera by Ravi Varman, is canning shots at a hectic pace. Ravi is happy that there is a lot of vibrancy in the way Prabhu visualizes his shots. Vijay’s Villu is shaping up very well with a good number of scenes being canned in Palani and Karaikudi. It all started with 5 month pregnant Malavika refusing to do heavy dance movements for a song in Karthigai film. The actress has alledged that the producer, Anjaneyulu, came into her caravan and tried to physically examine her to find out whether she really pregnant. The outraged actress immediately called Nadigar Sangam President Sarath Kumar, who advised her to leave the sets immediately. She then flew to Mumbai.

Karthikai movie has Vikramadithya in the lead along with Malavika and Samiksha and is being directed by Veera.The producer of the movie is now denying the charges and demanding that the actress get back to work and finish her portion in the movie as he will get into heavy losses if she fails to do so. The producer-director duo, Anjenayalu and veera are also planning to sue to actress if she fails to complete the film with them.

Meanwhile the actress has complained to the Nadigar Sangam and they have forwarded the complaint to the Tamil Film Producers Council for it to act on it.

Sources close to the deal said that last week the actress finally signed on the dotted line. She was reportedly paid a whopping advance amount for the film. Aishwarya is rumoured to be getting Rs 6 Crore to be the heroine of Robot. This is said to be the highest ever salary paid to an actress for an Indian film.

She has agreed to give bulk dates for the film as and when required.As per original plans, Shankar was supposed to start the film in the first week of June. Due to various hitches, the shooting of the film will start now only in the last week of August after a low key ‘pooja’ in Chennai.

The dates have now become very convenient for Ash. She had kept the entire month of July and August for the Bachchan’s “Unforgettable World Tour”, a series of shows across continents organised by Wizcraft and starring the Bachchans (Amitabh, Abhishek and Aishwarya) along with a host of stars.

After Aishwarya finishes her world tour, then she will join ROBOT team. As of now Shankar is said to be planning to start the shoot with a song to be picturised across the world. So Ash once again goes around the world with kollywood superstar!

Some portals reported that the actress had gone through the script. She liked the story and signed for the same. The second reason is, Kamal got enough investment to test his next novel project after Dasavatharam. It is Marmayogi, a historical film scripted and directed by Kamal himself. Pyramid Saimira has agreed to invest Rs.100 crores on this project and Kamal will make this film on first copy basis.

The launch ceremony will be held in Mumbai Grand Hotel on July 13 amidst Bollywood’s top artistes and filmmakers, as revealed by one of Kamal’s close associates. Hema Malini is going to play one of Kamal’s heroines in this film and the other one is probably Kajol. AR Rehman is signed as the composer for this magnum opus.

Mohini, who made her debut in Tamil with Keyar’s Eeramana Rojavae in the early nineties, married her lover Bharath four years ago and have a 2-year-old son.Serious difference of opinion has forced Mohini to part ways with her husband and she has been living with her parents. Now the couple has mutually agreed to separate and have filed for divorce.

The case came up for hearing on 13th June in the Family Court. The estranged couple was present on the occasion. Justice Narayanasamy has posted the next hearing to 15th December.

The five-month pregnant Malavika was humiliated on the sets of Karthikai in a Hyderabad studio by its producer M.Anjaneya.When she refused to do a song which involved a lot of body movements, the producer barged into her caravan and started to do a body search on her to find out whether she is pregnant! She had earlier refused to do Kuruvi title song which had heavy movements but the director adjusted and settled for very light steps. Later she also opted out of Indira Vizha, in which she had a meaty role.

The shooting of Karthikai had started much before Malavika had pregnant. Says the actress: "I agreed to do complete the shoot, as my role was interesting. Suddenly out of the blue they wanted me to do a song standing on a swing. How could I do that? Later the producer barged into my caravan and demanded an explanation. I told him that my belly was showing, and he came forward and felt my stomach, that was a little too much."

Immediately Malavika called up Sarathkumar, the Nadigar Sangam chief, who advised her to pack up and leave. Malavika caught the next flight to Mumbai, while the producer has threatened to take up the issue with the producers council.

The master actor’s movies such as ‘Ek Thuje Keliye’, ‘Hindusthani’ (‘Indian’) and ‘Chachi 420’ (‘Avvai Shanmugi’) were runaway successes in the North. Despite these hits, the actor had to face failures in the form of ‘Hey Ram’ and ‘Abey’ (‘Aalavanthan’). ‘Dasavatharam’ is expected to do very well in Hindi and the actor probably wants to back it up with a good showing with ‘Marmayogi’ as well. The movie would be released in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu.

Kamal Haasan having written the story and screenplay would also direct the film. Pyramid Saimira International will be producing the movie and have awarded Kamal Haasan the production rights on a first copy basis. It would be interesting to see how the expenses of the movie turn out. There is a general perception in the film industry that Kamal Haasan creative mind ’thinks’ expensive.

Would his creative mind still ’think’ expensive with him as the producer on a first copy basis? We’ll have to wait and see. But knowing the man’s passion for filmmaking, one gets a gut feeling it really wouldn’t alter his mindset.

Simbu’s school buddy and the buzz is that actor Sarathkumar’s daughter Varalakshmi will make her debut as heroine in the film. Poda Podi will be shot in one schedule for 90 days in Toronto and it will be a feel-good musical love story which will showcase Simbu in a new look.

The film opens in the 12th Century where Rangaraja Nambi (Kamal Hassan) a staunch Vaishnavite opposes the removal of Lord Vishnu’s idol by King Kulothunga Chozhan (Nepolean) who is a strong believer of Shiva. Nambi is punished and thrown into the deep sea tied to the idol. His wife Kothai (Asin) also kills herself and then the story cuts to US where Dr Govind ( Kamal) discovers a deadly virus which catches the attention of the government including President George Bush (Kamal). But his boss tries to sell the vial to the enemies and now its the turn of our hero to protect it from causing damage.

Dr Govind is chased by a former CIA agent turned mercenary Keith Fletcher (Kamal) and his Tamil interpreter (Mallika Sherawat) who lands up in Tamilnadu. An array of other characters are drawn into the chase- Balram Naidu (Kamal), the Telugu speaking RAW chief, a Chinese martial arts teacher (Kamal) thirsting to take revenge on Fletcher, Vincent Poovarahan (Kamal) a Dalit activist , Krishnaveni Patti (Kamal), Khalifullah Khan (Kamal) and a Punjabi pop singer Avatar Singh(Kamal). Andal a Brahmin girl is also unwittingly drawn into a long chase. What follows is a cat and mouse game till the climax Tsunami.

It’s actually hard to believe that in this age of experimentation within the commercial format, the director could think of such a moth balled story. She has recently filed a petition in actor’s association against her manager.According to her manager’s mathematics, 7% commission is equal to Rs 100,000 for any amount received, even if it is Rs 400,000.All these days Malavika was not knowing what her actual fees for acting in a movie. In this situation, Ravi Varman had started work on his next film, so producer Oscar Ravichandran has filed a complaint at the Council. He requests that Ravi Varman start work on his other projects only after completing his work in ’Moscowin Kaveri.’

On a little bit of enquiry, we found out the reason for the title. In the film, a TV serial called ‘Yaavarum Nalam’ takes place. Since this TV serial plays an important part in the film, the film title is also the same. Made simultaneously in Tamil and Hindi, the cinematographer is P C Sriram. When Sneha who had signed up initially to play the mom came to know that Shriya was to be her screen daughter, she backed out of the project in the last minute. Now the latest we hear is that Tabu, after her glam act in two Telugu films is being considered. Last week Sarath met her in Hyderabad, and the grapevine has it that she has agreed to play Shriya’s mom.

Charmi said, "The shooting will be wrapped up with this song. my role is that of an angel, something I have never done before; I expect this to be one of my best .The hero and heroine fall in love within 16 days and something unexpected happens on the last day."

A song featuring Rajinikanth and Nayantara in Kuselan was being filmed at Alapuzha in Kerala. But it came to an abrupt stop when cameraman Aravind Krishna was injured in a mishap.

A special set with 10 boats was arranged on which Rajinikanth and Nayantara were dancing. Aravind Krishna was shooting all these proceedings from another boat. When he tried to jump into another boat to get a better camera angle, he bumped into it abruptly instead of landing on it and fell into the water.

His leg was badly injured and he was admitted to a hospital. Following this, the shooting was kept in abeyance until the worried crew got the news that Aravind Krishna is doing well except for his leg injury. After this, Aravind Krishna’s assistant donned took over and the filming resumed.
