Sneha opts out of ‘Chandramukhi’

Well for Sneha, there is nothing more she’s got to do with this sequel in the future. Indeed, it was almost her biggest dreams coming true and now everything seems to have dashed down hopes. The actress was earlier signed for sequel to ‘Aapthamithra’ where she supposed to pick female lead role. Nevertheless, with the filming schedules getting postponed Sneha had no options other than backing off. And now, Sandhya goes on to be the lucky fille as she has been offered to gear up for this specific characterization.

P. Vasu who has started shooting for talkie portions across hillside regions of Pazhani has told that the film takes off with the climax part of its prequel. Suriya’s audacious efforts for ‘Ayan’

For continuing his six pack saga, Suriya will be back to the screens to flaunt his toned abs and mesmerizing acting in Sun Pictures’ ‘Ayan’. ‘Kallori’ girl Tamannah after sharing screen space with Dhanush in the super hit ‘Padikkadhavan’, pairs up with Suriya. Produced by AVM Productions, the latest trailer of the film featured a handsome Suriya walking the deserts and fighting the baddies audaciously in stunt scenes.

The Hollywood style of swinging down the bar and lifting the heavy barrel to knock out the henchmen looked awesome in the promo. But, very few knew that Suriya had a torn muscle while trying to support the weight of the iron rod. Albeit the painful injury, the actor continued with the scene that was shot extensively for seven days under the direction of stunt master Kanal Kannan. With just the basic first aid, Suriya did the sequence despite repetitive advice from the crew to pack up and continue later. This is just a piece of his meticulous work to exceed expectations with ‘Ayan’ that is set to hit the screen on April 3rd.

Shriya’s last chance in Bollywood!

Can Shriya Saran make it big in Bollywood and fulfill her dreams? The answer will be known this Friday (March 27), when her long in the making Ek- The Power of One will be released. Shriya has done 35 odd films mainly in Telugu and Tamil and only four films in Hindi. But all her Hindi releases including the last Mission Istanbul were colossal flops. Tamanna’s tall, dark hero

Vishal’s Theeradha Villayattu Pillai, which will be directed by Thiru, will commence very soon. However, the team is still in the process of selecting the heroines. Sources reveal that there would be three heroines in the film. While Nayathara was touted to be a strong contender for the role, it now looks like Tamanna will bag the role. It may be recalled that Tamanna went to sign up a project - Payya - after Nayan refused to star in it. The other heroine is said to be Reema Sen. Meanwhile, there was a buzz that Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu could be signed up. But the actress is apparently not interested in south Indian films as she finds the language difficult to speak. Asin - Success has many pitfalls

Success has many pitfalls. Asin who has reached dizzy heights after the mega success of Ghajini is in the news for the wrong reasons.

A 55-year-old woman Sudalaivadivu has approached the Chennai city police commissioner alleging that her son Nallamuthu Kumaraswamy (23), who had worked as the touchup boy of Asin has gone missing. Asin told “He came to Mumbai as a touch boy. Later he met with an accident and all his treatment expenses, which amounted to a few lakhs were taken care by us. We also brought his mother down to Mumbai to look after him and after recovery, he said that he wanted to go back to Chennai and start some business”.

Continues Asin: “On January 21, he voluntarily resigned. All his dues were settled and he left for Chennai. My dad has registered this information of his resignation with the Oshiwara police station and produced the vouchers that all his payments were settled which a regular procedure in Mumbai”. However, a source close to Nallamuthu Kumaraswamy in Tirunelveli states that he had started a business in partnership with a friend that incurred huge losses. And realizing that he could not cough up the money, by working with Asin, he left the job. This is not the first time that top actors are targeted by their staff who wants to grab some media attention by making false allegations.

In the case of Asin, the biggest mistake they did was to take the staff they had in Chennai with them when they shifted to Mumbai. Remember that earlier, a lady from Chennai had made accusations that Asin was forcedly keeping her daughter as domestic help against her will, which was sorted out when the girl herself gave her statement against her mother claiming that she was happy working with Asin.

Bipasha Basu won’t pair with Vishal

Bipasha Basu is laying emphasis on an area her fans would hardly care about: her pronunciation! The sex siren, who has earlier featured in a blink-and-miss role in Vijay’s ‘Sachin’, said she was not interested in doing both Tamil and Telugu films. Birdies in Kollywood have it that she was approached to play an important role in Vishal’s forthcoming film. When asked about it, the actress said she was diffident in acting in a language she was not familiar with. “It’s never an issue of who the hero is or how he looks when I agree to a script. The most important factor is if I understand the language that I’m expected to mouth. I don’t understand both Telugu and Tamil and so haven’t taken up offers from there,” says the actress.

‘Raavana’ shooting gets delayed

Despite managing the dates of the hottest stars of Indian filmdom, from Abhi and Ash to Vikram and Prithviraj, shooting for the stunt portions of Maniratnam’s ‘Raavana’ has been stalled. The reason? A serious injury of its stunt master Peter Haynes. Peter Haynes met with an accident a month ago during the shoot of a Telugu film ‘Mahatheera’, after which he suffered from 19 fractures. The accident, which happened in February, has dearly costed two of the most anticipated films of the year, ‘Endhiran’ and ‘Raavana. Says Peter Haynes himself about his injury, “I am part of both Rajini’s ‘Endhiran’ and Maniratnam’s ‘Raavana’. For ‘Endhiran’, a few action sequences were canned with me moving about in a wheel chair and instructing the stuntmen. “But that was possible only for a few milder stunt blocks,” he adds. On account of Peter Haynes inability to involve in heavy duty stunts, the shooting of the action portions of both these films has been delayed.

Sanjay dances with dad Vijay in Vettaikaran

Ilayathalapathy Vijay’s son Sanjay (7) is making a special appearance with dad in a song for his new film Vettaikaran, produced by AVM Balasubramaniam! Sources close to the unit confirmed that Sanjay has done a dance number with Vijay shot by cameraman Gopinath and directed by Babu Shivam in Rajahmundry. Shobhi, who excels in mass songs, choreographed it in front of an Ayyanar temple set. Dr Trisha to arrive on 27th March

After a prolonged tenure with Naan Kadavul, Arya has moved on to his next project Sarvam, directed by Vishnu Vardhan, where he will be seen with Trisha for the first time on screen. Sarvam is supposed to be a romantic and an emotional thriller with two sets of stories pre- and post- interval. Kamal's message for Rahman

The entire Indian film industry has gone ecstatic over the clean sweep of Slumdog Millionaire at the Oscar’s today. The celebrities are now coming out with their congratulatory messages and Kamal Haasan is one among the early birds to wish the Mozart of Madras.

The actor had said he felt like he was walking along with A.R. Rahman on stage to collect the award. According to Kamal Haasan, he always found Rahman to be very simple and uncomplicated. The actor added that he was proud and happy as an Indian for Rahman’s fete

The Ulaganayagan, while talking about the musical genius’s humility, recalled an incident during the Marmayogi project. Kamal pointed out that while he was going gaga over a song composition for the film, Rahman was calm and composed.

Kamal said that Oscars is not like Olympics because each entry is judged based on American standards and not on universal standards. "It is good that Indians are doing well and they cannot be ignored at the Oscars anymore", the star added.

Kanthaswamy was almost complete except for a song. Recently, the crew was at Italy shooting a song sequence featuring Vikram and Shriya. This song sequence witnessed Shriya adorned with a costume worth a jaw dropping amount of Rs. 26 lakhs. Lo behold, this is not the end. She was wearing diamond jewelry costing a whopping Rs. 6 crores. It was reported that the hiring charge alone for the jewels was Rs. 5 lakhs per day. Trisha’s unable to make room for Dhanush film

Dhanush is having quite a few projects on the anvil post Padikathavan. While he is set to join brother Selvaraghavan for Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam, there is also the remake of the Telugu superhit Arya. The one that seems like Trisha’s unable to make room for Dhanush filmtaking off first is Polladhavan director Vetrimaaran’s untitled project. According to reports, the story this time will be set in Madurai and it will involve Anglo Indian characters. Trisha was the first choice for playing the female lead. However the lady has put the offer on hold due to her other commitments. She too is fully loaded with work being part of a Telugu mega project, followed by a bit of work for the Telugu remake of Abhiyum Naanum. The Dhanush-Vetrimaaran project now has to scout for other alternatives or wait to see whether any adjustment with Trisha’s dates is possible. The project should go on floors soon.

Vijay and Dhanush on the campaign trail

Vijay is aggressively marketing his Villu to its target audiences in Coimbatore, Tirupur and Erode in western Tamilnadu. He went to Adlabs Ragam complex in Coimbatore where he watched the film with his fans and responded to their queries. Vijay told his fans: “ Villu has taken the best 10-day opening in my entire film career. I had visited Coimbatore because the movie was doing extremely well here”. When the fans pointed out the negative campaign unleashed by vested interests, the actor said it was all a part of the game. Vijay then proceeded to head to Trichy and Madurai and parts of south Tamilnadu to popularize the film. Meanwhile, Dhanush’s whose Padikathavan is also a super hit, went on a promotional tour to Trichy and Madurai. Asin's freedom of speech

Asin has definitely made her presence felt in a big way with the release of Ghajini. But the actress feels she deserves more than a mere recognition, given her performance in the film. The lady attributes her lack of proper lack of recognition to Aamir Khan’s dictatorial terms that she should not interact with the media until the film releases. Though Asin had agreed to this in the beginning, she realized that this was a big mistake later on. To add to Asin’s misery, all the publicity stills that were released to the media consisted of Aamir only. Sidelined by the actor and the producers, the lady had insisted to Vipul Shah, the director of London Dreams, that she be allowed to talk to the media when she wished or she would terminate the contract. Asin’s father, Joseph Tottumkal who is also her manager, says that she is merely demanding for the right to freedom of speech.

Ajith appreciates Vijay in Villu

Last Sunday, Vijay received a phone call which overjoyed him. The voice on the other end was Ajith’s. Nayantara and Suriya in KSR film?

The latest rumour in Kollywood? Nayantara and Suriya will soon come together in K.S. Ravikumar’s film!

Suriya is now acting in cinematographer-turned-director K.V. Anand’s Ayan opposite Tamanna; K.S. Ravikumar is almost done with his Jaggubhai, which stars Sarathkumar and Shriya; and Nayantara is on a signing spree. Well, the situation clearly indicates this combination is quite possible. Speculations were rife even when Jaggubhai was being launched that Suriya and KSR will do a film soon; it only gained momentum with KSR inviting Suriya for the Jaggubhai movie launch. On the other hand, after walking out of Linguswamy’s Paiya, Nayantara has signed a Telugu film opposite Jr. NTR, a film in Malayalam, and is planning to sign a Tamil film to offset the loss of missing a film like Paiya starring Karthi, the new craze of Kollywood. Villu, Prabhu Deva’s next directorial venture (with Vijay and Nayantara paired together for the first time) is readying for release on January 12th. Meantime, Prabhu Deva, who spoke to a select gathering of the media, revealed a little bit about what Vijay fans can expect from the film.

Music director Devi Sri Prasad being the music composer and Prabhu Deva being one of the lyrics writers (albeit unknowingly), Villu is all about non-stop entertainment. The first half is full of fun and frolic, with Vadivelu and Vijay raising a lot of belly laughs; the second half is very racy and styled along the lines of a James Bond film. Prabhu Deva said five dance choreographers who had been his students have worked on the film, so audiences can expect quite a storm onscreen! At the same meet, Vijay stated he wished to watch the film in a regular theatre surrounded by his fans and that care has been taken to give audiences, especially his fans, the maximum entertainment that can be loaded into two and a half hours.

Pokkiri, which was Prabhu Deva’s directorial debut in Tamil, starred Vijay and Asin. The Prabhu Deva-Vijay team is considered lucky ever since Pokkiri became a mega-hit running for over 150 days in Tamil Nadu and elsewhere.

Pongal treat for Vijay fans in USA!

After Pokkiri, the Prabhu Deva and Vijay team is all set to rock North American audiences, especially Vijay fans on January 12th with the release of Villu. The movie sees Nayantara as Vijay's heroine for the first time.

Insiders say that the comedy scenes involving Vijay, Nayan and Vadivelu will bring the house down. The movie has been packaged and presented with style by Prabhu Deva and will be released in the US with more than 10 prints.

The advance booking will start from Thursday and the movie will be screened across all major cities in the US, including Bay Area, New Jersey, Virginia, Detroit, Atlanta, Dallas, Los Angeles, Columbus, Dayton, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Chicago, Boston and Connecticut.

Villu is ready for the blast

 

The Villu fever is touching new levels. The advance booking that opened on Friday (Jan 9), for the film releasing on January 12, has been amazing. All the seven screens in Chennai have been sold out for the first one week.

On Friday evening Ayngaran International held a press conference at Green Park in Chennai. Vijay, director Prabhu Deva, cameraman Ravi Varman, music director Devi Sri Prasad and producers Karunamoorthy and Arun Pandian attended the function.

Vijay in his speech said : " We have given Prabhu Deva a new name after Villu, the magic man as he made everything possible. It is my costliest film and very similar to a Bond movie. He thanked cameraman Ravi Varman for "making me handsome and dashing in the film" Technically Vijay said it is his best film till date, and he wished it was his 50th film!

Prabhu Deva said in his speech: " I got the full cooperation of producer Karuna and Arun sir, without them it would not have been possible. They met all our shooting requirements without asking any questions." He also said: "It is Vijay's most stylish film till date. The way he has danced to Devi's tune is fantastic." On Nayanthara, Prabhu said: "She looks gorgeous in the film, and her scenes with vijay and Vadivel will bring the house down."

Ravi Varman, the cameraman said the film has been shot in various locations in South India, Switzerland, Malaysia and Bangkok. "The film combines technical gloss with mass elements. The DI work is superb and on the whole it will be a treat.".

Police rescue Srikanth Deva from Pondy beach

Arjunan Kaadhali, an upcoming venture, with Jai and Poorna in the lead is directed by Paarthi Baskar. Filmed mostly in Madurai and Kutralam areas, the director has recruited many new debutants from the Madurai area to give the film its required rustic effect. The new actors have also undergone intensive workshops to spruce their acting skills.

“I visited all the Arjunan temples in Tamil Nadu before starting off with the project,” the director reveals. Srikanth Deva scores for Arjunan Kaadhali and the tunes were composed in the warmth of the beaches in Pondicherry. The director also recollects incidents when he and Srikanth Deva were mobbed by fans for autographs while tuning some songs in the beach in the midnight. When the crowd went out of hand, Police came to their rescue, he added. Arjunan Kaadhali is produced by Sivasakthi Pandiyan who is known for hits such as Kaadal Kottai.

Radha refuses to be Cheran's mom

Former actress Radha has refused to play the role of mom to actor cum director Cheran in a movie. Cheran is presently in the making of his dream project Pokkisham under the banner of Hitesh Jhabak. The shooting is almost complete. The unit recently shot the protagonist’s flashback scenes in Kolkata for a month. The film, which has Cheran and Padmapriya in the lead, is said to be an emotional and moving film, very similar to the director-hero’s earlier film Autograph.

Villu audio CDs have slowly become hot cakes in the stalls. Initially the songs were not much impressive but the repeated broadcasting and vigorous campaigns have made the audio worthwhile to listen

According to the trade circuit, the music of Villu is expected to be a chartbuster, especially the intro number of Vijay ’Hey Rama...’ The Daddy Mummy song is a titillating mass number, which is already a favourite with Vijay’s fans. Taste bites of Kollywood stars

Kamal Haasan eats everything which is alive in the sky to deep sea . He is a regular customer of Samco restaurant at Alwarpet. His favorites are pepper fried chicken, crabs and prawns from Madurai, omelets without yolk. Peanut candy is a must after his lunch.

Rajnikanth is fond of eating lot of fruits. Mutton Thonjal is his favourite. He avoids oily food. He takes fewer amounts of rice, sugar and salt. Ajith is fond of milk pudding, chicken 65, scrambled shark, prawns fry, rice puttu, tender coconut, guava and crunchier dosas. Nayanthara’ all time favorites are mutton biriyani, peeled mangoes, pomegranate juice and dry chapattis. Vikram likes chicken 65, fried seer fish, garlic rasam, mor kuzambhu, omelets with lot of onions, milk, yoghurt and butter. Sarath Kumar’s lunch consists of chicken leg soup, half a kilo mutton, half a kilo chicken leg piece, 4 boiled eggs and one seer fish steak. His rice intake is very less. He has two glasses of rasam. Dhanush is fond of dry fish gravy,chicken 65, prawns fry, crab rasam, unboiled cow’s milk, vathal kuzambhu and rava upuma Namitha craves for fried rice, chili chicken, wheat based foods, peanut candy, fried cashew nuts and lassi.

Soundarya Rajinikanth to sign up Hollywood star

Soundarya Rajinikanth’s production house, Ocher Films, has tied up with the Warner Bros to produce South Indian Language films. Though the lady is busy with the animation film Sultan - The Warrior, which features her dad, Superstar Rajinikanth, the production house is also negotiating terms with the Hollywood actress, Jessica Alba to play a role in her forthcoming venture Goa.

The film is based on a real life murder that happened in Goa where a teenager, Scarlett Keelin, was raped and murdered. Jessica Alba has been approached to play the murder victim in the film. Goa will be directed by Venkat Prabhu.

Rajini romances Ash in Vellore!

Shankar’s magnum opus Endhiran had a shoot at the prestigious Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) in Vellore. The highly guarded shoot involved the lead pair of Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The scene involved Ash being wooed by Rajini in the movie. Aishwarya, apparently plays a college student in the movie and Rajinikanth plays a scientist and a robot. The scene that was shot in the VIT campus involved Rajinikanth entering the college in a Benz car and blocking Aishwarya Rai and wooing her with his punchline comedy. The crew shot in Vellore for a couple of days and it was then that Rajini spoke of his intention to look trim and fit to match Aishwarya. So when Rajini was offered sweet delicacies like Makkan Beda a Vellore delicacy, he politely refused and said he was on a diet to keep himself fit!

Anushka - Vettaikaran effect

Anushka has suddenly become most wanted in Kollywood. Her only previous film in Tamil was Rendu after which there has been more than a two year gap during which she has been busy in Tollywood. Not upset with Silambarasan: Sneha

There has been quite some talk about Sneha’s role in Silambattam. Though many have liked it, there is a feeling that her character has not been given the importance or screen time that it deserves. There are even opinions that Sana Khan’s role has been given precedence above that of Sneha. Obviously, some work at the editing table seems to be behind this and rumors have been going around that Sneha is a bit upset by the chopping down of her role.

But, putting all rumors to rest, Sneha said in a recent interview that she does not have any issues with Silambattam. She admitted that her role was originally intended to be a bit longer and that many of her scenes have indeed been snipped off. However, she said that it is the director’s prerogative to decide what should come out finally on screen and that she has not got any problems with Saravanan or Silambarasan.

Sun Pictures: From Rajini to Dhanush

Dhanush starrer ’Padikathavan’ has been acquired by Sun Pictures. The movie stars Dhanush and Tamanna in the lead roles. Sun Pictures, an arm of Sun TV Network, is interestingly producing Rajinikanth - Shankar’s ’Endhiran’. Now after the father-in-law’s film, they have now acquired the son-in-law’s flick. ’Padikathavan’ has been shot in an impressive manner. The crew had shot a couple of songs abroad. Sun Pictures had been associated with films like ’Kadhalil Vizhunthen’, ’Dindigul Sarathy’ and ’Thenavattu’ in the recent past. Expectations are high on the movie as Dhanush’s last ventures ’Yaradi Nee Mohini’ and ’Polladhavan’ were big hits.

Endhiran to be re-shot!

The portions of Endhiran which have been shot were recently screened for Kalanithi Maran. The producer is reportedly very happy with the way the scenes have come out and is said to have wholeheartedly praised director Shankar for the richness in every frame.

However, the perfectionist that he is, Shankar has seen some scope for improvement and has decided to re-shoot some of the scenes. With the producer already very happy with what has been made, only a director of Shankar’s quality would have been ready to put even more effort to make the movie better.
